Vehicle: 2023 Mazda CX-90 Premium Plus

Hi everyone,

I recently purchased a 2023 Mazda CX-90 Premium Plus, and I'm already having an issue with the Adaptive Cruise Control (MRCC) system. I keep getting a 'MRCC System Malfunction' message on the display, and the system won't engage. Sometimes it works for a short while after starting the car, but then the error pops up again.

I've checked the front of the car for any obstructions to the radar sensor, and everything looks clear. The car is brand new, so I'm really surprised to be having this kind of problem already. It's a key safety feature that I rely on.

Has anyone with a new CX-90 experienced this? Could it be a sensor calibration issue, or perhaps a faulty radar unit? Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

An 'MRCC System Malfunction' on a brand new 2023 Mazda CX-90 Premium Plus is certainly frustrating, especially for a key safety and convenience feature. This issue typically points to the front radar sensor or its related systems.

  1. Front Radar Sensor Obstruction/Damage:

    • Location: The MRCC system relies on a radar sensor usually located behind the Mazda emblem in the front grille or lower bumper area. Even minor debris, ice, or a slight impact can affect its operation.
    • Inspection: While you've checked for obstructions, ensure the area is perfectly clean. Sometimes, even a thin layer of dirt or a bug can interfere. Given it's new, check for any factory defects or misalignments.
  2. Sensor Calibration:

    • Diagnosis: The front radar sensor requires precise calibration to function correctly. If it's even slightly out of alignment (e.g., from a minor bump during transport or assembly), it can trigger a malfunction.
    • Action: Calibration requires specialized equipment and procedures, typically performed by a dealership.
  3. Wiring and Connectors:

    • Diagnosis: A loose or faulty electrical connection to the front radar sensor or its control module can cause intermittent errors. This could be due to a manufacturing defect or improper seating of a connector.
  4. Module or Sensor Failure:

    • Diagnosis: Although rare on a new vehicle, the radar sensor unit itself or the associated control module could be faulty from the factory.
  5. OBD-II Codes:

    • A diagnostic scan will provide specific codes related to the MRCC system. Common codes might include:
      • C1A60 (Front Radar Sensor Malfunction): Directly indicates an issue with the radar unit.
      • U0428 (Invalid Data Received From Steering Angle Sensor Module): While not directly MRCC, related systems like Lane Keep Assist (LKA) and MRCC often share sensor data, and a fault in one can affect others.
      • Other manufacturer-specific codes related to sensor communication or internal faults.

When to See a Shop: Since your CX-90 is brand new and under warranty, and this is a critical safety system, you should immediately schedule an appointment with your Mazda dealership. Do not attempt to diagnose or repair this yourself, as it could void your warranty or cause further issues. The dealership has the specific diagnostic tools and expertise to accurately identify the cause, perform any necessary sensor calibrations, or replace faulty components under warranty.
