2017 C300 Transmission Fluid Change - "Sealed for Life"?

Hey everyone, I've got a 2017 C300 with about 70k miles on it. Lately, I've noticed some slight hesitation during shifts, especially when cold. I've been told by some that Mercedes transmissions are 'sealed for life' and don't need fluid changes, but that just doesn't sit right with me.

Is this true for my model year and the 7G-Tronic Plus transmission? I'm a pretty handy guy and usually do my own maintenance, but I'm a bit intimidated by the transmission. What's the recommended interval, and is this something a competent DIYer can tackle, or should I definitely take it to a specialist? Any specific tools or fluid types I should be aware of?

Summary: For 2017 C300 Transmission Fluid Change - "Sealed for Life"?, work through these steps on your 2016+ vehicle:

  1. Confirm the symptom — note when it happens (cold start, highway, after fuel fill, etc.).
  2. Scan codes — save all pending/stored DTCs; don't clear until you've recorded them.
  3. Check TSBs & recalls — look up your VIN for open campaigns and known fixes.
  4. Inspect the obvious — related fuses, connectors, fluid level, and recent repairs.
  5. Test the common fix — follow model-specific service procedures; one change at a time.
  6. Escalate if needed — burning smell, no brakes, overheating, or stalling in traffic → shop visit.
