2018 C300 Transmission Fluid Change - DIY or Dealer Only?

Hey everyone,

I have a 2018 Mercedes-Benz C300 Sedan (W205) with about 65,000 miles on it. I'm starting to think about the transmission fluid service. The manual says it's a 'lifetime fill' for some, but I've heard that's not really the case for longevity, especially with the 7G-Tronic Plus transmission.

Has anyone here done a DIY transmission fluid and filter change on a similar model year C300? What's involved? I'm pretty handy with tools, but I know Mercedes transmissions can be particular about fluid type, fill levels, and temperature.

Is this something I should absolutely take to the dealer, or is it a manageable DIY for an experienced home mechanic? Any specific tools or fluid recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Summary: For 2018 C300 Transmission Fluid Change - DIY or Dealer Only?, work through these steps on your 2016+ vehicle:

  1. Confirm the symptom — note when it happens (cold start, highway, after fuel fill, etc.).
  2. Scan codes — save all pending/stored DTCs; don't clear until you've recorded them.
  3. Check TSBs & recalls — look up your VIN for open campaigns and known fixes.
  4. Inspect the obvious — related fuses, connectors, fluid level, and recent repairs.
  5. Test the common fix — follow model-specific service procedures; one change at a time.
  6. Escalate if needed — burning smell, no brakes, overheating, or stalling in traffic → shop visit.
