2017 C300 Transmission Hesitation and Rough Shifts

My 2017 Mercedes-Benz C300 (W205) with about 60k miles has started acting up. Sometimes when accelerating from a stop, there's a noticeable hesitation before it engages, almost like a delay. Also, some shifts, especially in lower gears, feel rough or clunky. It's not constant, but it's happening more frequently now.

I'm worried about potential transmission issues. I've heard about the 9G-Tronic having some quirks, but this feels more serious. It's making city driving quite unpleasant.

Has anyone else experienced this with their C-Class of a similar year? What could be causing this, and what steps should I take to diagnose it before heading to the dealership?

Summary: For 2017 C300 Transmission Hesitation and Rough Shifts, work through these steps on your 2016+ vehicle:

  1. Confirm the symptom — note when it happens (cold start, highway, after fuel fill, etc.).
  2. Scan codes — save all pending/stored DTCs; don't clear until you've recorded them.
  3. Check TSBs & recalls — look up your VIN for open campaigns and known fixes.
  4. Inspect the obvious — related fuses, connectors, fluid level, and recent repairs.
  5. Test the common fix — follow model-specific service procedures; one change at a time.
  6. Escalate if needed — burning smell, no brakes, overheating, or stalling in traffic → shop visit.
