2018 E300 Transmission Jerking & Rough Shifts

Hey everyone, I'm having some serious issues with my 2018 Mercedes-Benz E300 (W213). Lately, the transmission has been acting really strange. It often jerks noticeably when shifting, especially from 2nd to 3rd and sometimes downshifting too. It feels really clunky and not at all smooth like a Mercedes should be.

A few times, it's even felt like it's struggling to find the right gear, almost like it's slipping. I'm worried this could be a major problem. Has anyone else experienced this with their E-Class, particularly the 9G-TRONIC transmission? What was the fix? I'm hoping it's not a full transmission replacement.

Summary: For 2018 E300 Transmission Jerking & Rough Shifts, work through these steps on your 2016+ vehicle:

  1. Confirm the symptom — note when it happens (cold start, highway, after fuel fill, etc.).
  2. Scan codes — save all pending/stored DTCs; don't clear until you've recorded them.
  3. Check TSBs & recalls — look up your VIN for open campaigns and known fixes.
  4. Inspect the obvious — related fuses, connectors, fluid level, and recent repairs.
  5. Test the common fix — follow model-specific service procedures; one change at a time.
  6. Escalate if needed — burning smell, no brakes, overheating, or stalling in traffic → shop visit.
