Vehicle: 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross SEL

Hello forum,

I recently purchased a 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross SEL, and while I love the car, I'm having some persistent issues with the infotainment system. The touchscreen frequently freezes, becoming unresponsive for several seconds, which is really annoying when I'm trying to change settings or navigate.

On top of that, my Apple CarPlay connection is very unreliable. It constantly disconnects and reconnects, sometimes mid-call or while using navigation, which is incredibly frustrating. I've tried different cables and even different iPhones, but the problem persists. The backup camera also seems to lag sometimes when I put the car in reverse.

Is this a known issue with the 2022 Eclipse Cross or other recent Mitsubishi models? Are there any software updates or fixes I can perform myself, or is this something I need to take to the dealership? Any advice would be appreciated!

Infotainment system glitches, especially with newer vehicles, are unfortunately not uncommon. Here's a breakdown of potential causes and solutions for your 2022 Eclipse Cross:

  1. Software Bugs: The most frequent cause of freezing screens and connectivity issues is software. Manufacturers often release updates to fix bugs and improve system stability. Your dealership may have a newer firmware version available for your infotainment unit.
  2. Loose Connections: While less likely for a new vehicle, a loose wiring harness behind the head unit could cause intermittent issues. This is something a technician would check.
  3. USB Port Issues: For CarPlay, try cleaning the USB port in your vehicle and on your phone. Sometimes debris can interfere with the connection. Also, ensure you are using a high-quality, MFi-certified (Made for iPhone) USB cable, as generic cables can be unreliable.
  4. System Reset: You can try a soft reset of the infotainment system. Consult your owner's manual for the specific procedure, but it often involves holding down the power button for an extended period (e.g., 10-15 seconds) until the system reboots.
  5. TSBs (Technical Service Bulletins): Mitsubishi may have issued TSBs related to infotainment system performance for your model year. These bulletins outline known issues and their recommended fixes for technicians.

When to See a Shop: If a soft reset and trying different cables don't resolve the issues, it's best to schedule an appointment with your Mitsubishi dealership. Since your vehicle is a 2022 model, it should still be under warranty. The dealership can:

  • Check for and install any available software updates for the infotainment system.
  • Diagnose any hardware issues with the head unit or associated wiring.
  • Refer to any relevant TSBs for a known solution. Document the issues thoroughly before your visit to help the technician.
