Vehicle: 2022 Mitsubishi Mirage G4 SE

Hello everyone,

I'm having a frustrating issue with my 2022 Mitsubishi Mirage G4 SE. The driver's side power window sometimes just stops working. It's completely intermittent – sometimes it works perfectly, other times it won't go up or down at all. There's no grinding noise, just nothing happens when I press the switch.

If I wait a bit, or try cycling the ignition, it might start working again, but it's not reliable. It's really annoying, especially when I need to pay a toll or go through a drive-thru. All other windows work fine.

Has anyone else with a newer Mirage experienced this? Could it be the switch, the motor, or something else electrical? Any tips on what to check first?

Intermittent power window issues like this on your 2022 Mirage G4 SE are typically electrical and can be narrowed down to a few common culprits:

  1. Driver's Side Window Switch: This is the most common failure point. The contacts inside the switch can wear out or become dirty, leading to intermittent operation. Since only the driver's window is affected, and the driver's switch is used most often, this is a strong candidate.
  2. Window Motor: The electric motor that moves the window up and down could be failing. Sometimes, motors can work intermittently before failing completely, especially if there's an internal short or worn brushes.
  3. Wiring Harness: A damaged or frayed wire in the door jamb (where the wires pass between the body and the door) can cause intermittent connection issues. Repeated opening and closing of the door can stress these wires.
  4. Master Power Window Switch Module: In some vehicles, the driver's side master switch assembly contains a small control module. If this module is faulty, it can affect the driver's window specifically.

Troubleshooting Steps:

  • Listen Carefully: Next time it fails, listen closely at the door panel. Do you hear any faint click from the motor or switch? No sound usually points to the switch or a power supply issue.
  • Test Passenger Switch (if applicable): If your Mirage has a passenger-side switch that can control the driver's window (less common on base models), try using that. If it works, it strongly points to the driver's master switch.

OBD Codes: Power window issues typically do not trigger standard powertrain (P-codes) OBD codes. However, a professional scan tool might be able to access the Body Control Module (BCM) for specific manufacturer codes (B-codes) related to door modules or window operation, though this is less common for simple motor/switch failures.

When to See a Shop: If you're not comfortable removing door panels or testing electrical components, it's best to take your Mirage to a qualified mechanic or Mitsubishi dealership. They can accurately diagnose whether it's the switch, motor, or wiring, and perform the necessary repair. This is a relatively straightforward repair for a professional.
