2016 Outlander CVT Shuddering and Jerking - Is it a common issue?

Hey everyone, I'm having some worrying issues with my 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander ES. Lately, the transmission has been feeling really off. When accelerating, especially from a stop or at lower speeds, there's a noticeable shuddering and jerking sensation. It feels like the car isn't sure which gear to be in, or if it's slipping.

I'm worried this might be a serious CVT problem. The car has about 80,000 miles on it, and I've tried to keep up with maintenance. Has anyone else experienced this with their Outlander, particularly around this model year?

Sometimes, it even feels like the car struggles to get up to speed on the highway. I'm hoping it's something minor, but the thought of a CVT replacement is pretty stressful. Any advice or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated before I take it to the dealer.

  6. Escalate if needed — burning smell, no brakes, overheating, or stalling in traffic → shop visit.
