2022 Murano ABS and Traction Control Lights On - What's the Code?

Vehicle: 2022 Nissan Murano Platinum

Hi everyone,

My 2022 Nissan Murano Platinum just lit up with both the ABS warning light and the Traction Control System (TCS) light on the dashboard. They came on simultaneously while I was driving normally on the highway. There wasn't any noticeable change in braking or handling, but it's definitely concerning.

I haven't had any recent work done on the car. I'm wondering if this is a common issue with newer Muranos, and what specific OBD codes I should look out for if I get it scanned. Could it be a wheel speed sensor, or something more serious like the ABS module?

Thanks in advance for any insights!

ClearTheCode admin answer:

When both the ABS and Traction Control System (TCS) lights illuminate on your 2022 Nissan Murano Platinum, it indicates a fault within the vehicle's anti-lock braking system, which often shares components with the TCS. While the car may seem to drive normally, these safety systems are currently disabled.

Common Causes & Associated OBD Codes:

  1. Wheel Speed Sensor Failure: This is the most common cause. Each wheel has a sensor that monitors its rotational speed. If one fails, the ABS/TCS module can't get accurate data, triggering the lights. Common codes include:
    • C1101: Right Front Wheel Speed Sensor
    • C1102: Left Front Wheel Speed Sensor
    • C1103: Right Rear Wheel Speed Sensor
    • C1104: Left Rear Wheel Speed Sensor
    • Other codes like C1105 (Wheel Speed Sensor Open/Short) might also appear.
  2. Wiring/Connector Issues: Damaged wiring or corroded connectors to the wheel speed sensors can mimic a sensor failure.
  3. ABS Module Failure: Less common, but the ABS control module itself can fail. This is typically indicated by more complex or multiple codes, potentially including U-codes (network communication errors).
  4. Brake Fluid Level/Pressure Sensor: In some cases, low brake fluid or a faulty brake pressure sensor can trigger these lights.

What to Do:

  • Scan for Codes: The first and most crucial step is to use an OBD-II scanner capable of reading ABS codes. This will pinpoint the specific fault.
  • Visual Check: If a wheel speed sensor code is present, visually inspect the sensor and its wiring at the indicated wheel for any obvious damage or debris.

When to See a Shop: Since your ABS and TCS are disabled, your vehicle's safety features are compromised, especially in emergency braking or slippery conditions. It's advisable to have your Murano inspected by a professional mechanic as soon as possible. They can accurately diagnose the issue using specialized diagnostic tools and perform necessary repairs, whether it's replacing a sensor, repairing wiring, or, in rarer cases, replacing the ABS module.
