2018 Rogue CVT Hesitation and Whining Noise - Is my transmission failing?

Hey everyone,

I'm getting really worried about my 2018 Nissan Rogue SL AWD. It has about 72,000 miles on it, and lately, the CVT has been acting up. When I accelerate from a stop, there's often a noticeable hesitation, almost like a delay before the power kicks in. It feels like the transmission is slipping.

On top of that, I've started hearing a distinct whining noise, especially at lower speeds or when the engine is under light load. It's not super loud, but it's definitely new and concerning. I've heard about Nissan's CVT issues in the past, and I'm wondering if this is the beginning of a major problem.

Has anyone else experienced these symptoms with their 2018 Rogue or similar Nissan models? What was the diagnosis, and what did it cost to fix? I'm trying to figure out if I should take it straight to the dealer or if there are simpler checks I can do first.

  1. Confirm the symptom — note when it happens (cold start, highway, after fuel fill, etc.).
  2. Scan codes — save all pending/stored DTCs; don't clear until you've recorded them.
  3. Check TSBs & recalls — look up your VIN for open campaigns and known fixes.
  4. Inspect the obvious — related fuses, connectors, fluid level, and recent repairs.
