Vehicle: 2023 Rivian R1S Launch Edition

I've been getting a "Service Air Suspension" message intermittently on my 2023 Rivian R1S Launch Edition. Sometimes the vehicle seems to sag overnight, especially on one side, and then levels out once I start driving.

I also hear a louder-than-usual compressor noise when it's trying to adjust.

This is concerning for a relatively new vehicle. Has anyone else experienced this? What could be the cause, and is it a serious issue?

  1. Common Causes: Air suspension issues in EVs like the Rivian R1S often stem from a few areas:
    • Air Leaks: Small leaks in the air lines, air springs (bags), or fittings can cause the system to lose pressure, leading to sagging, especially overnight.
    • Compressor Failure: The air compressor might be failing or overworked if it's constantly trying to maintain pressure due to a leak. This can cause the loud noise you're hearing.
    • Sensor Malfunction: Height sensors can fail, sending incorrect readings to the suspension control module, leading to improper leveling.
  2. Diagnostic Codes: A professional scan tool will likely reveal specific C-codes (Chassis codes) related to the air suspension system. Common codes might include:
    • C0561: System voltage low (can affect compressor).
    • C0A00-C0A1F: Related to air suspension height sensor issues.
    • C0A20-C0A3F: Related to air compressor or valve block malfunctions.
  3. When to See a Shop: Do not delay in getting this checked. Driving with a faulty air suspension can affect handling, ride comfort, and potentially lead to further damage to suspension components or tires. Contact Rivian Service immediately for diagnosis and repair. They can pinpoint the exact cause using specialized tools and access any relevant Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs).
