Vehicle: 2023 Rivian R1T Adventure

Hey everyone,

I'm having a persistent issue with my 2023 Rivian R1T Adventure. Lately, I've noticed the truck isn't leveling properly, especially after parking overnight. Sometimes the front end looks lower than the rear, or one side seems to sag.

The biggest concern is the "Service Suspension" warning that pops up on the dash. It's not constant, but it appears intermittently, usually after driving for a bit or when I try to adjust the ride height. The ride quality also feels a bit off, harsher than usual.

I've tried cycling through the different ride height modes, but it doesn't seem to resolve the issue. Has anyone else experienced this with their R1T? What could be causing this, and is there anything I can check before taking it to the service center?

  1. Initial Checks:

    • Visual Inspection: Park on a level surface and visually inspect all four corners of your Rivian R1T. Look for any obvious sagging or unevenness. Check the air springs (often visible behind the wheels) for any signs of damage, cracks, or moisture, which could indicate a leak.
    • Listen for Compressor: With the vehicle on, listen for the air suspension compressor. It should run periodically to maintain ride height. If it's running excessively or not at all, it could indicate a problem.
    • Check for Leaks: A common cause of uneven ride height is a leak in the air suspension system. You can try spraying a soapy water solution on the air springs and air lines (if accessible) while the system is pressurized. Look for bubbles, which indicate a leak.
  2. Potential Causes:

    • Air Spring Leaks: The rubber components of the air springs can degrade over time, leading to small leaks that cause the vehicle to sag, especially overnight.
    • Height Sensor Malfunction: The vehicle uses height sensors at each wheel to determine the correct ride height. A faulty sensor can send incorrect data to the suspension control module, leading to uneven leveling or error messages.
    • Air Compressor Issues: The compressor is responsible for supplying air to the system. If it's weak, failing, or has a leak in its lines, it won't be able to maintain proper pressure.
    • Suspension Control Module (SCM) Problems: Less common, but the SCM itself could be malfunctioning, leading to incorrect operation of the suspension system.
    • Air Line Leaks: Small cracks or loose connections in the air lines can also cause pressure loss.
  3. When to See a Shop:

    • Persistent "Service Suspension" Warning: If the warning light remains on or comes on frequently, it's crucial to have it diagnosed professionally.
    • Noticeable Sagging or Unevenness: If your R1T is consistently sagging on one side or corner, or if the ride height cannot be adjusted, professional attention is needed.
    • Unusual Noises: Any new or loud noises coming from the suspension area, especially when the vehicle is trying to adjust its height, warrant a shop visit.
    • OBD Codes: While specific Rivian codes might require specialized tools, generic suspension-related codes like C0575 (Left Front Position Sensor Circuit Malfunction) or C0550 (Suspension Control Module Malfunction) would indicate a need for professional diagnostics. Ignoring these issues can lead to further damage to suspension components or affect vehicle handling and safety.
