Vehicle: 2023 Rivian R1T Adventure

My 2023 Rivian R1T, Adventure trim, has developed a strange issue with its air suspension. I've noticed the front passenger side seems to be sitting lower than the rest of the vehicle, especially after it's been parked overnight. It usually levels out after driving for a bit, but the initial sag is concerning.

I haven't hit any major potholes recently, and the ride quality otherwise seems fine. I've tried cycling through the different suspension modes (All-Purpose, Sport, etc.), but the sag persists when parked.

Has anyone else experienced this with their R1T, particularly a 2023 model? Is this a common problem, or something I should be worried about immediately? Any diagnostic steps I can take before scheduling a service appointment?

  1. Initial Observation & Safety: It's good you're noticing this. Uneven suspension can affect handling and tire wear. First, ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface when observing the sag. Check tire pressures on all four tires, as an underinflated tire can sometimes mimic a suspension sag.

  2. Check Vehicle Diagnostics: Your Rivian R1T has sophisticated onboard diagnostics. Check the vehicle's display for any specific warning messages related to the air suspension system. These might appear as a general suspension fault or a more specific error code.

  3. Common Causes for Uneven Air Suspension:

    • Air Leak: The most common culprit. A small leak in an air spring (air bag), an air line, or a fitting on the affected side can cause it to slowly deflate when parked. The compressor then works to re-level it when the vehicle is started or driven.
    • Height Sensor Malfunction: Each corner of your R1T has a height sensor that tells the suspension control module the current ride height. If the sensor on the front passenger side is faulty or miscalibrated, it might be sending an incorrect signal, causing that corner to sit lower.
    • Air Compressor or Valve Block Issue: While less likely to affect only one corner, a failing compressor or a sticky valve in the air distribution block could contribute to uneven leveling if it's not maintaining pressure correctly on one side.
    • Control Module Glitch: Occasionally, a software glitch in the suspension control module can cause erratic behavior. A simple vehicle restart (if possible and safe) might temporarily resolve minor electronic issues.
  4. When to See a Rivian Service Center:

    • If the sag is significant, persistent, or worsens over time.
    • If you hear any hissing sounds from the suspension area when the vehicle is parked.
    • If the vehicle's display shows a persistent air suspension fault message.
    • If you notice any changes in driving dynamics or comfort.

Rivian's air suspension system is complex and requires specialized tools and knowledge for diagnosis and repair. It's best to have a certified Rivian technician inspect the system to accurately pinpoint the issue and prevent further damage. They can perform detailed diagnostics, check for leaks, and recalibrate or replace faulty components.
