Vehicle: 2023 Rivian R1T Adventure

Hey everyone, I'm having a really frustrating issue with my 2023 Rivian R1T Adventure. Lately, the air suspension seems to be acting up. I've noticed the truck isn't leveling properly, especially after parking overnight or after charging. The front passenger side often looks noticeably lower than the driver's side.

When I try to adjust the ride height, it either doesn't respond or only adjusts partially. Sometimes I get a 'Suspension Service Required' message on the dash, which then disappears after a while, only to reappear later.

I haven't done any heavy off-roading recently, just typical daily driving. Has anyone else experienced this with their R1T? What could be causing this, and is there anything I can check before taking it to the service center?

ClearTheCode admin answer:

Experiencing uneven ride height and a 'Suspension Service Required' message on your Rivian R1T is a common concern with air suspension systems. Here's a breakdown of potential causes and what to do:

  1. Common Causes:

    • Air Leak: The most frequent culprit. A small leak in an air spring, air line, or valve block can cause one corner or axle to sag over time as air slowly escapes.
    • Faulty Ride Height Sensor: Each corner of your Rivian has a sensor that tells the suspension control module the current height. If a sensor is faulty, it can send incorrect readings, leading to improper leveling.
    • Air Compressor Issues: The compressor is responsible for pumping air into the system. If it's weak, failing, or has a leak in its lines, it might not be able to maintain pressure.
    • Suspension Control Module (SCM) Malfunction: Less common, but the electronic brain controlling the system could have a glitch or fault.
  2. Initial Diagnostics & Checks:

    • Visual Inspection: Look for any obvious damage to the air springs (bags) or air lines, especially around the sagging corner. Listen for hissing sounds when the vehicle is parked or attempting to adjust height.
    • Tire Pressure: While not directly related to air suspension, uneven tire pressure can sometimes give the perception of uneven ride height. Ensure all tires are inflated to the recommended PSI.
    • Attempt Manual Adjustment: Try cycling through different ride height settings a few times to see if the system attempts to correct itself. Sometimes a temporary glitch can clear.
  3. When to See a Shop:

    • Persistent Warning: If the 'Suspension Service Required' message remains on, or reappears frequently.
    • Significant Leaning: If one side or corner is severely lower and not correcting.
    • Inability to Adjust Height: If the system completely fails to respond to ride height commands.
    • Associated OBD Codes: A professional scan tool can often pull specific diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) related to the air suspension system. Common codes might include C0561 (Suspension Control Module), C0575 (Ride Height Sensor), or codes related to compressor performance or pressure faults. These codes are crucial for accurate diagnosis.

Given that your vehicle is a 2023 model, it's likely still under warranty. It's highly recommended to schedule a service appointment with Rivian as soon as possible to prevent further issues or potential damage to suspension components.
