Vehicle: 2024 Rivian R1T Quad-Motor

My 2024 Rivian R1T Quad-Motor has been having persistent issues with the infotainment system. The screen frequently freezes, navigation becomes unresponsive, and sometimes it just reboots itself while driving. Apple CarPlay also disconnects randomly.

I've tried soft resets, but the problem keeps coming back. This is frustrating, especially for a new vehicle.

Is there a known software bug or a specific update I should look for?

  1. Software Updates: The most common cause for infotainment glitches in modern vehicles is outdated or buggy software. Ensure your 2024 R1T has the latest over-the-air (OTA) software update installed. Rivian frequently releases updates that address stability and performance issues.
  2. Soft Reset: Try performing a soft reset of the infotainment system. On Rivian vehicles, this typically involves holding down specific steering wheel buttons (often the two scroll wheels) for about 15-20 seconds until the screen reboots. This can clear temporary glitches.
  3. Hard Reset (with caution): If a soft reset doesn't work, a more complete system reset might be needed. Consult your owner's manual or Rivian service for the correct procedure, as this might involve disconnecting the 12V battery (which should only be done if you are comfortable and understand the risks).
  4. Connectivity Check: For Apple CarPlay issues, ensure your phone's software is updated and try forgetting and re-pairing the device. Check the USB cable if you're using a wired connection.
  5. Diagnostic Codes: While less common for direct infotainment issues, communication errors can generate U-codes (Network Communication codes). For example, U0100 (Lost Communication with ECM/PCM) or U0140 (Lost Communication With Body Control Module) could indirectly affect infotainment if a module it relies on is not communicating.
  6. When to See a Shop: If the issues persist after software updates and resets, or if the screen goes completely blank and won't respond, it might indicate a hardware fault with the infotainment control unit. Schedule a service appointment with Rivian. They can diagnose hardware failures and perform more advanced software diagnostics.
