Vehicle: 2022 Rivian R1T Launch Edition

Hey everyone,

My 2022 Rivian R1T Launch Edition is suddenly refusing to charge at home. I'm using my Level 2 Wall Connector, which has worked perfectly for over a year. Now, when I plug it in, the truck's dash just displays "Charging Fault" and the charger's indicator light turns red.

I've tried restarting the charger at the breaker and doing a soft reset on the truck, but no luck. It charged fine just yesterday. Has anyone experienced this with their R1T? Wondering if it's a truck issue, charger issue, or something else entirely.

Experiencing a "Charging Fault" can be frustrating, especially when your home setup has been reliable. Here's a breakdown of potential causes and steps to diagnose:

  1. Inspect the Charging Cable and Port:

    • Carefully check your charging cable for any signs of damage, fraying, or bent pins at either end. Even minor damage can interrupt communication or power flow.
    • Examine the Rivian's charge port for any debris, moisture, or bent/corroded pins. Use a flashlight if needed. Ensure it's clean and dry.
  2. Test with a Different Charger (If Possible):

    • If you have access to another Level 2 charger (e.g., a public charger, a friend's charger, or a portable Level 1 charger), try charging your R1T there. This helps determine if the issue is with your vehicle or your home charging station.
  3. Check the Home Charger's Status:

    • While you've reset the breaker, check your Wall Connector's specific indicator lights or app (if applicable) for any diagnostic codes or messages it might be displaying. Sometimes the charger itself can indicate an internal fault.
  4. Vehicle Diagnostics:

    • The vehicle's onboard diagnostics might log a specific code. While you might not have an OBD-II scanner for an EV, a service center will check for codes like P0D2F (Charge Connector Proximity Circuit Low), which indicates an issue with the connection, or potentially P0AA6 (High Voltage Battery Isolation Fault) if there's an internal vehicle issue preventing charging.

When to See a Shop: If after checking the cable, port, and trying another charger, the issue persists, it's time to schedule a service appointment with Rivian. The problem could stem from:

  • A faulty onboard charger within your R1T.
  • A communication issue between the vehicle and the charging station.
  • A problem with the vehicle's Battery Management System (BMS).
  • An internal fault with your home charging station that requires professional inspection or replacement.
