Vehicle: 2022 Rivian R1T Adventure

My 2022 Rivian R1T Adventure, with about 30k miles, seems to be losing range faster than expected. I used to get around 300 miles on a full charge, but now it's closer to 260-270.

Also, charging at home on my Level 2 charger takes much longer than it used to, and sometimes it stops prematurely. I've tried different chargers, and the issue persists.

Is this normal battery degradation, or could something else be going on? I'm worried about long-term reliability.

  1. Understand Battery Degradation: All EV batteries experience some degradation over time and mileage. A 10-15% drop after 30k miles is not uncommon, especially if the vehicle is frequently charged to 100% or fast-charged.
  2. Battery Calibration: The vehicle's Battery Management System (BMS) might need recalibration. Try charging to 100% and then driving until the battery is very low (around 5-10%) before recharging fully. Doing this a few times can help the BMS accurately estimate range.
  3. Check Charging Habits: Consistent fast charging (DCFC) can accelerate degradation. Rely more on Level 2 charging when possible. Ensure your home charger is functioning correctly.
  4. Software Updates: Ensure your Rivian's software is up to date. Rivian frequently releases updates that can optimize battery management and charging algorithms.
  5. Diagnostic Codes: A Rivian service center can check for specific diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) related to the battery system. Look for codes in the P0Axx or P0Bxx range, which often indicate issues with the high-voltage battery or its management system.
  6. When to See a Shop: If the range drop is sudden, severe, or accompanied by warning lights, or if charging completely fails, schedule a service appointment immediately. They can perform a comprehensive battery health check and diagnose any underlying issues with the battery pack or BMS.
