Hey everyone,

I've got a 2018 Subaru Outback 2.5i Limited, and lately, I've noticed a distinct clunking noise coming from the front suspension, especially when going over speed bumps or uneven pavement. It's more noticeable at lower speeds.

It sounds like it's coming from the driver's side, but it's hard to pinpoint exactly. I haven't hit any major potholes recently, and the car drives straight. No warning lights are on. Has anyone experienced something similar with their Outback of this generation? I'm trying to figure out if it's something simple I can check or if it needs a shop visit soon.

Summary: For 2018 Outback Front Suspension Clunking Noise Over Bumps, work through these steps on your 2016+ vehicle:

  1. Confirm the symptom — note when it happens (cold start, highway, after fuel fill, etc.).
  2. Scan codes — save all pending/stored DTCs; don't clear until you've recorded them.
  3. Check TSBs & recalls — look up your VIN for open campaigns and known fixes.
  4. Inspect the obvious — related fuses, connectors, fluid level, and recent repairs.
  5. Test the common fix — follow model-specific service procedures; one change at a time.
  6. Escalate if needed — burning smell, no brakes, overheating, or stalling in traffic → shop visit.
