2020 Outback Battery Draining Fast & Start-Stop Malfunction

Hey everyone, I'm having a persistent issue with my 2020 Subaru Outback Limited. Lately, the battery seems to be draining really fast, sometimes even overnight. I've had to jump-start it a couple of times. The auto start-stop system also isn't working at all, and I'm getting a 'Check Engine' light.

I had the battery tested at a local auto parts store, and they said it was okay, but I'm not so sure. Could this be an alternator problem, or maybe something else is drawing power when the car is off? It's really frustrating, especially with winter coming up.

Has anyone experienced this with their Outback? Any ideas on what I should check before taking it to the dealer? Thanks in advance for any help!

Summary: For 2020 Outback Battery Draining Fast & Start-Stop Malfunction, work through these steps on your 2016+ vehicle:

  1. Confirm the symptom — note when it happens (cold start, highway, after fuel fill, etc.).
  2. Scan codes — save all pending/stored DTCs; don't clear until you've recorded them.
  3. Check TSBs & recalls — look up your VIN for open campaigns and known fixes.
  4. Inspect the obvious — related fuses, connectors, fluid level, and recent repairs.
  5. Test the common fix — follow model-specific service procedures; one change at a time.
  6. Escalate if needed — burning smell, no brakes, overheating, or stalling in traffic → shop visit.
