2021 Model 3 Long Range: Charging Speed Issues & Unexpected Stops

Hey everyone,

I've been experiencing some frustrating charging issues with my 2021 Tesla Model 3 Long Range lately. It seems like the charging speed has significantly decreased, both at home on my Wall Connector and at Superchargers. Sometimes, it even stops charging completely without warning, requiring me to unplug and replug.

For example, last night, it was charging at only 10 kW at a Supercharger that usually gives me 150 kW, and then it just stopped after about 20 minutes. At home, my 48A Wall Connector is only delivering around 20-25A, which is much lower than usual.

I've tried rebooting the car multiple times and checking the charging cables, but nothing seems to help. Has anyone else encountered this with their Model 3, especially a 2021 model? Any ideas on what might be causing this or what I should check next?

Summary: For 2021 Model 3 Long Range: Charging Speed Issues & Unexpected Stops, work through these steps on your 2016+ vehicle:

  1. Confirm the symptom — note when it happens (cold start, highway, after fuel fill, etc.).
  2. Scan codes — save all pending/stored DTCs; don't clear until you've recorded them.
  3. Check TSBs & recalls — look up your VIN for open campaigns and known fixes.
  4. Inspect the obvious — related fuses, connectors, fluid level, and recent repairs.
  5. Test the common fix — follow model-specific service procedures; one change at a time.
  6. Escalate if needed — burning smell, no brakes, overheating, or stalling in traffic → shop visit.
