Model 3 Charging Port Not Latching or Slow Charging

Hey everyone, I'm having a weird issue with my 2018 Tesla Model 3 Long Range. Lately, when I try to plug in the charger, the charging port often doesn't latch properly. I have to wiggle it around a bit, and sometimes it just won't lock in at all.

Even when it does latch, I've noticed that the charging speed seems slower than usual, or it'll occasionally stop charging mid-session. I've tried different Superchargers and my home Wall Connector, and the problem persists across all of them. It's really frustrating and makes me worried about getting a full charge.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is it a common problem with the charging port mechanism or something else electrical? Any advice on what to check before scheduling a service appointment would be greatly appreciated!

Summary: For Model 3 Charging Port Not Latching or Slow Charging, work through these steps on your 2016+ vehicle:

  1. Confirm the symptom — note when it happens (cold start, highway, after fuel fill, etc.).
  2. Scan codes — save all pending/stored DTCs; don't clear until you've recorded them.
  3. Check TSBs & recalls — look up your VIN for open campaigns and known fixes.
  4. Inspect the obvious — related fuses, connectors, fluid level, and recent repairs.
  5. Test the common fix — follow model-specific service procedures; one change at a time.
  6. Escalate if needed — burning smell, no brakes, overheating, or stalling in traffic → shop visit.
