Vehicle: 2019 Tesla Model X Long Range

I've noticed my 2019 Tesla Model X Long Range isn't leveling properly anymore. Sometimes one side looks lower than the other, and it takes a long time to adjust, or doesn't adjust at all. It feels like the ride quality has also deteriorated slightly.

I'm worried about driving it like this, especially since it's an air suspension system. I've tried cycling through the suspension heights, but it doesn't always help.

Is this a common problem with the air suspension system on the Model X? What could be causing it, and what should I do?

Issues with the air suspension not leveling correctly on a 2019 Tesla Model X are a significant concern and should be addressed promptly. The air suspension system is complex, and several components can fail, leading to the symptoms you're describing.

Common Causes:

  1. Air Leaks: This is perhaps the most common cause. Leaks can occur in the air springs (air bags), air lines, or fittings. A leak will cause one or more corners of the vehicle to sag, especially after sitting for a while.
  2. Air Compressor Failure: The compressor is responsible for pumping air into the system. If it's failing or worn out, it may struggle to maintain pressure, leading to slow or no leveling, and potentially a louder compressor noise.
  3. Ride Height Sensor Malfunction: Sensors at each wheel measure the vehicle's height. If a sensor is faulty, it can send incorrect readings to the suspension control module, causing improper leveling.
  4. Valve Block Issues: The valve block controls the distribution of air to each air spring. A faulty valve block can prevent air from reaching or leaving specific air springs.

What You Can Do (Limited):

  1. Visual Check: Look under the car for any obvious damage to the air lines or air springs. You might hear a faint hissing sound if there's a significant leak.
  2. Monitor Closely: Note which corner(s) are sagging and under what conditions (e.g., after parking overnight, or only when driving).

When to See a Shop:

  • Immediately: Driving with a compromised air suspension can be unsafe, affect handling, and potentially cause further damage to other suspension components or tires. It's crucial to have this inspected by a Tesla service center or a specialized shop as soon as possible.
  • A Tesla service center can connect to the vehicle's diagnostic system to read specific fault codes related to the air suspension (e.g., BMS_w026 or similar internal codes for suspension faults), pinpointing the exact component that has failed. They can also perform leak tests and check compressor function.
