Loud Squealing from Brakes on my 2018 Jetta

Hey everyone,

I'm experiencing a really annoying issue with my 2018 Volkswagen Jetta SE. Just recently, the brakes have started to squeal quite loudly, especially when I'm braking at lower speeds or coming to a stop. It's not a constant squeal, but it's frequent enough to be concerning.

I had the car serviced about a month ago, and they mentioned the brake pads still had plenty of life left. Could it be something else? Sometimes it even sounds a bit like a grinding noise, which makes me really nervous. Any advice on what might be causing this or what I should check?

Summary: For Loud Squealing from Brakes on my 2018 Jetta, work through these steps on your 2016+ vehicle:

  1. Confirm the symptom — note when it happens (cold start, highway, after fuel fill, etc.).
  2. Scan codes — save all pending/stored DTCs; don't clear until you've recorded them.
  3. Check TSBs & recalls — look up your VIN for open campaigns and known fixes.
  4. Inspect the obvious — related fuses, connectors, fluid level, and recent repairs.
  5. Test the common fix — follow model-specific service procedures; one change at a time.
  6. Escalate if needed — burning smell, no brakes, overheating, or stalling in traffic → shop visit.
