Persistent Squealing Brakes on my 2018 Jetta SE

Hey everyone,

I've been experiencing a persistent squealing noise from my brakes, especially when I apply them lightly. It's a 2018 Volkswagen Jetta SE with about 55,000 miles on it. The noise seems to come from the front wheels, but it's hard to pinpoint exactly.

I had the pads and rotors replaced about 15,000 miles ago, so I'm a bit surprised to hear this again so soon. The braking performance itself feels fine, no grinding or pulsing, just that annoying high-pitched squeal.

Could this be something simple like dust, or should I be worried about more serious wear? Any tips on what I can check myself before taking it to a shop would be greatly appreciated!

Summary: For Persistent Squealing Brakes on my 2018 Jetta SE, work through these steps on your 2016+ vehicle:

  1. Confirm the symptom — note when it happens (cold start, highway, after fuel fill, etc.).
  2. Scan codes — save all pending/stored DTCs; don't clear until you've recorded them.
  3. Check TSBs & recalls — look up your VIN for open campaigns and known fixes.
  4. Inspect the obvious — related fuses, connectors, fluid level, and recent repairs.
  5. Test the common fix — follow model-specific service procedures; one change at a time.
  6. Escalate if needed — burning smell, no brakes, overheating, or stalling in traffic → shop visit.
