Hey everyone,

I'm looking to do my first DIY oil change on my 2020 Volvo XC60 T5 Momentum. It's got about 45,000 miles on it now, and the service reminder is popping up. I've done oil changes on older cars before, but I know newer Volvos can be a bit particular with oil specs and filter types.

Could anyone provide some guidance on the specific oil (weight and spec) and oil filter I should be using? Also, what's the procedure for resetting the service light after the oil change? I'd appreciate any tips or tricks to make this go smoothly!

Summary: For DIY Oil Change & Service Light Reset on 2020 XC60 T5, work through these steps on your 2016+ vehicle:

  1. Confirm the symptom — note when it happens (cold start, highway, after fuel fill, etc.).
  2. Scan codes — save all pending/stored DTCs; don't clear until you've recorded them.
  3. Check TSBs & recalls — look up your VIN for open campaigns and known fixes.
  4. Inspect the obvious — related fuses, connectors, fluid level, and recent repairs.
  5. Test the common fix — follow model-specific service procedures; one change at a time.
  6. Escalate if needed — burning smell, no brakes, overheating, or stalling in traffic → shop visit.
