Recurring 12V Battery Drain on my 2021 Volvo XC90

Hey everyone,

I'm having a persistent issue with my 2021 Volvo XC90 T6 Inscription. It seems like the 12V battery keeps draining, especially if the car sits for more than a couple of days. I've had to jump-start it three times in the last two months, which is really frustrating for a relatively new vehicle.

The first time, I thought maybe I left something on, but I've been super careful since. The dealer checked it once and said the battery tested fine, but the problem came back. I mostly do short trips, but even after a longer drive, if it sits for a weekend, it's often dead by Monday morning.

Has anyone else experienced this with their newer Volvo? Could it be a known issue or a specific component causing a parasitic draw? I'm trying to gather some info before I take it back to the service center again.

Summary: For Recurring 12V Battery Drain on my 2021 Volvo XC90, work through these steps on your 2016+ vehicle:

  1. Confirm the symptom — note when it happens (cold start, highway, after fuel fill, etc.).
  2. Scan codes — save all pending/stored DTCs; don't clear until you've recorded them.
  3. Check TSBs & recalls — look up your VIN for open campaigns and known fixes.
  4. Inspect the obvious — related fuses, connectors, fluid level, and recent repairs.
  5. Test the common fix — follow model-specific service procedures; one change at a time.
  6. Escalate if needed — burning smell, no brakes, overheating, or stalling in traffic → shop visit.
