Vehicle: 2024 Acura Integra Base

Hi everyone,

I've noticed a new issue with my 2024 Acura Integra Base model. Lately, the engine feels a bit rough when idling, especially noticeable at stop lights or in traffic. It's not violent, but definitely more vibration than usual.

On top of that, I've experienced a slight hesitation or stumble during acceleration, particularly from a stop or when trying to speed up from low RPMs. It's not consistent, but it's happened a few times now. I haven't seen a Check Engine Light yet, but I'm getting a little worried.

Could this be something serious? What should I be looking into? Any ideas on what might be causing this for a relatively new car?

ClearTheCode admin answer:

A rough idle combined with hesitation during acceleration on a newer vehicle like your 2024 Acura Integra can be concerning. While a Check Engine Light (CEL) isn't on yet, these symptoms often precede one. Here are the most common causes:

  1. Ignition System Issues:

    • Spark Plugs: Even on newer cars, a faulty spark plug or ignition coil can cause misfires, leading to rough idle and hesitation. A single misfiring cylinder can be hard to detect without a CEL.
    • OBD Codes: If a CEL does appear, look for codes like P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304 (Cylinder Misfire Detected in specific cylinder) or P0300 (Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected).
  2. Fuel System Problems:

    • Fuel Injectors: Clogged or faulty fuel injectors can disrupt the air-fuel mixture, causing rough running and hesitation. Using low-quality fuel can sometimes contribute to this.
    • Fuel Filter: While less common on newer vehicles, a partially clogged fuel filter could restrict fuel flow.
  3. Air Intake System Issues:

    • Mass Airflow Sensor (MAF): A dirty or failing MAF sensor can send incorrect air intake data to the engine control unit (ECU), leading to improper fuel mixture.
    • Vacuum Leaks: Leaks in vacuum lines or intake manifold gaskets can introduce unmetered air, causing a lean condition and rough idle.
  4. ECU/Sensor Malfunctions:

    • Less common, but a faulty oxygen sensor or even a glitch in the ECU's programming could lead to these symptoms.

When to See a Shop: Since your Integra is a newer model, it's best to have a professional diagnose this. Even without a CEL, a qualified technician can connect a diagnostic scanner to check for pending codes, monitor live engine data (like fuel trims, MAF readings, and misfire counts), and perform a thorough inspection of the ignition, fuel, and air intake systems. Addressing this early can prevent potential damage to other components like the catalytic converter.
